As aerospace engineers look to the high strength and light weight of composites, diamond is playing an increasingly larger role as the cutting tool material of choice. PCD tipped drills, countersinks and routers offer several significant advantages over carbide:

1) PCD tools are regrindable up to 3 times. Unlike coated carbide, our tools can be resharpened at about 30% the cost of a new tool. Calculating cost per hole including this factor produces a significant savings.

2) Geometries that were once available only in carbide are now possible in PCD. In the past PCD tools were limited to flat diamond segments. That is no longer the case. STF's state of the art 6 axis grinding & erosion machines produce drills & routers with a true, uninterrupted helix from the carbide all the way through the diamond tip.

3) The price of tungsten carbide has gone up almost 100% over the last two years, and continues to climb, making diamond tooling more attractive. At the same time the technology to produce PCD tooling has advanced and spread, creating a competitive marketplace and driving down tool prices that were once prohibitively high.
